Michael Koerbel has directed commercials for Royal Caribbean, Porsche, AXE, Coca-Cola, Star Clippers, Fresh&Easy, and Cisco/Linksys. He recently won the BEST COMEDY STUDENT EMMY for his narrative short "In Captivity."
His most recent commercial for Royal Caribbean aired during the 2013 Oscar telecast to over 40 million viewers - and introduced Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked, Pushing Daisies, The West Wing) as the new godmother to their latest innovative ship - Quantum of the Seas.
"It's A Magical Life" for Porsche has been viewed an estimated 60 million times between theatrical, cable, and online audiences. The campaign was awarded a 2012 Silver Effie and was shortlisted for a Cannes Media Lion.
Michael Koerbel has been featured in the New York Times, CNN, The Guardian, PBS, USA Today, and by Apple - as well as hundreds of other publications highlighting his unique iPhone filmmaking and distribution methods. He has spoken at The Academy of Arts and Sciences, TEDx, The Director Guild of America and most recently, SXSW and Macworld. Koerbel and iPhone filmmaking partner Anna Elizabeth James are currently working on their first book entitled, "The Studio in Your Pocket," due out this Summer.
Koerbel directed "Apple of My Eye," the first film shot and edited entirely on the iPhone 4. "Goldilocks," an action series - his follow-up project - was shot on the same device. Michael is a MFA graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and is the co-founder of Majek Pictures.
With every project, Michael aims to continually stretch the boundaries of technology. He is currently developing a television series concept with Anna Elizabeth James, and will direct his first feature in 2013.
